They used to exercise near decent version control of their sources back in the days of the 1-6 series devices. My main gripe with all of this is OnePlus should know better. If the changes are not released then it would indicate that the OPPO development team with all their pitfalls that have made OPPO handsets less popular among the enthusiast/modding segment are becoming what we should expect for OnePlus, making future OnePlus devices a strongly discouraged choice for developers and traditional 'power users.' That's a really powerful point that I'm sure would receive significant additional attention after some initial media reports.

It would be interesting to tie this in with the OPPO merger, since it seems like a large culture shift for OnePlus to stop releasing these, and would show that they are not committed to maintaining the same software quality and usability as we saw with a separate Oxygen OS.

I think that three work weeks is likely a workable amount of time from initial contact until even a squashed changeset or diff can be released of what from the start would need to be GPL releasable code, so I will wait two work weeks from now (until Tuesday, July 12th, 5pm EST) before reaching out to Phoronix, AnandTech, and XDA writing teams about this since they have been quite receptive in the past to bringing some of these issues to light. The last thing our community needs is another blood sucking corporate entity steeling its work and not paying homage to its contributors. We're all smart enough to know they exist, how else did OnePlus manage to release OOS12 on the sm8250 if it didn't have it already? Why has oneplus become so defensively cloak and dagger about releasing its sources for OOS12 for its older platforms? Are they afraid of having it audited by security experts? If OnePlus so concerned with hiding the sources, why not abandon the Linux kernel project all together in its future devices? Perhaps move your efforts towards writing its own kernel? Maybe do what apple has with darwin and use the BSD kernel? At least then OnePlus could steal the work and have 0 accountability to the pesky community that created them to begin with. At this point it feels as though OnePlus is willfully withholding the sources. Nobody thus far has found this at all helpful. User, OOS 12 kernel source for sm8250 is preparing and will be released as soon as possible.
